ANSI-ESD S20-20 Standard Test Method for Protection of Electrical and Electronic Components

EUROLAB, with its state-of-the-art accredited laboratories and expert team, provides precise and fast testing services within the scope of ANSI-ESD S20-20 test. ANSI/ESD S20.20, an American National Standard, provides administrative and technical requirements for establishing, implementing and maintaining an ESD control program.

ANSI-ESD S20-20 Standard Test Method for Protection of Electrical and Electronic Components

You have electricity inside you. The human body at rest contains about 100 volts. Our bodies are not alone in creating loads. In manufacturing and manufacturing environments, integrated circuits can generate a charge of around 200 volts. These two values include the human body model (HBM, 100 V) and the charger model (CDM, 200 V).

Understanding them is essential to protect electrostatic discharge (ESD) sensitive equipment through an ESD control program in accordance with ANSI/ESD S20.20 Protection of Electrical and Electronic Components, Assemblies, and Equipment (Except Electrically Initiated Explosive Devices).

Electrostatic discharge sensitive (ESDS) elements include, but are not limited to, microcircuits, discrete semiconductors, thick and thin film resistors, hybrid devices, printed circuit boards, and piezoelectric crystals.

ESDs are prevented by grounding and using static dissipative materials. Three basic control principles form the basis of the ANSI/ESD S20.20 standard:

  • All conductors in the environment, including personnel, must be connected or electrically connected and connected to a known or designed ground;
  • Process-based insulators in the environment do not lose their electrostatic charge by being connected to the ground;
  • Transporting ESDS items requires that they be contained in protective materials, although the type of material varies by situation and destination.

ANSI/ESD S20.20 applies to organizations that manufacture, process, assemble, install, package, label, service, test, inspect, ship, or otherwise handle electrical or electronic parts, assemblies, and equipment that may be damaged by electrostatic discharges. Also, this standard provides protection against insulated conductors by limiting the voltage on them to less than 35 volts.
