IEC EN 60051-9 Analog Electrical Measuring Devices and Accessories with Direct Acting Display - Part 9: Recommended Test Methods

This standard does not apply to:

  • Special purpose tools covered by their respective IEC International Standards;
  • Special purpose devices covered by their IEC International Standards when used as accessories.

Test equipment shall have sufficient accuracy and stability to determine the inherent uncertainty and variations of an instrument.

The maximum instrumental uncertainty of reference instruments used to determine the intrinsic uncertainty and variations of an instrument should be 0,2 times the class index of the instrument under test. If the calibration protocol is used, the maximum calibration uncertainty will be 0,2 times the class index (EUT) of the equipment under test.

Intrinsic uncertainty at defined test points should be checked with gradually increasing and decreasing measurement values without any overshoot and without touching. Test points for type testing can be defined by the manufacturer. During routine testing, full-scale testing should be performed at all ranges and features should be tested at at least one range.

The relative humidity settings according to the temperatures will comply with the relevant requirements of IEC EN 60051-1. The minimum test time must be at least 48 hours for variation to be detected.

Electric fields should be simulated with two metal plates placed in parallel at a distance of 1 m. The EUT should be placed in the centre, between the plates and rotated to find the worst-case position. Test points may be specified by the manufacturer. The cube of this configuration must be at least ten times higher than the cube of the EUT for the field to remain homogeneous.
