IEC EN 60092-352 Electrical Installation on Ships - Selection and Installation of Electrical Cables

EUROLAB, with its state-of-the-art accredited laboratories and expert team, provides precise and fast testing services within the scope of IEC EN 60092-352 testing. This standard provides the basic requirements for the selection and laying of cables intended for stationary electrical systems on ships at voltages (U) up to (inclusive) 15 kV.

IEC EN 60092-352 Electrical Installation on Ships - Selection and Installation of Electrical Cables

Reference to stationary systems includes those subject to vibration (due to the movement of the ship) or movement (due to the movement of the ship) and does not include those intended for frequent yawning. Cables suitable for frequent or continuous flexing use are detailed in other IEC standards, such as IEC EN 60227 and IEC EN 60245, and their use on board is limited to situations that do not involve direct exposure to the marine environment, for example portable appliances or household appliances.

The following cable types and applications are not included:

  • fiber optic cables;
  • Submarine and umbilical cables;
  • Data, telecommunications and radio frequency cables;
  • Selection and installation of cables for use in offshore units.

Cables manufactured in accordance with IEC EN 60092-350, IEC EN 60092-353, IEC EN 60092-354 and IEC EN 60092-376 are recommended for use on ships. Cables (and ends) made in accordance with IEC EN 60702-1 and IEC EN 60702-2 for use in special applications are acceptable provided that due consideration is given to their intended use and use in a marine environment.

In order to determine the dimensions of the conductors in the lighting circuits, the evaluation of the current to be carried shall be made by assuming that each lamp socket needs a current equivalent to the maximum load that can be connected to it. This will be assumed to be at least 100 W; however, where the luminaire is constructed to receive only a lamp rated less than 100 W, the current rating will be evaluated accordingly.
