This part of the International Standard IEC EN 60614 specifies the requirements for pipes of circular cross section for the protection of conductors or cables in electrical installations. This standard specifies requirements for bendable, self-retaining straight and corrugated pipes made of insulating materials.
If the uniformity of the wall thickness of the pipes is in doubt, three samples, each of different lengths or taken from places separated by about 3 m, should be cut along a plane perpendicular to the axis. The wall thickness at each cutting edge should be measured at four locations as evenly spaced as possible around the circumference, with one measurement being made at the thinnest point.
For testing at room temperature of 20 ± 1°C, the specimen should be clamped vertically on the bending apparatus, and then manually bent by about 90° to the left, again to the vertical position, about 90° to the right, and return to the vertical position, with a rest period of 1 minute added between each bending .
The force and spacer should then be removed and 15 minutes after removal, the outside diameter of the specimens at which they were flattened should be measured. The difference between the initial diameter and the diameter of flattened specimens should not exceed 10% of the outside diameter measured before testing.
Immediately after the end of the conditioning period, the samples should be placed on a flat steel support and a steel spacer should be placed in the middle of the sample as shown in the figure.
