This international standard aims to measure the sinusoidal or non-sinusoidal waveform current of DC or AC that can flow through the human body and the current flowing through a protective conductor. The proposed measurement methods for Touch Current are based on the possible effects of current flowing through a human body.
In this standard, current measurements made through nets representing the impedance of the human body are called "Touch Current" measurements. These nets are not necessarily applicable to the bodies of animals. It is beyond the scope of this standard to specify or imply specific limit values.
Also in this standard, measurement methods are used for Touch currents shorter than 1 s, patient currents defined in IEC 60601-1, ac at frequencies below 15 Hz and currents above those selected for Electric burn limits.
