IEC EN 61058-2-5 applies to switch selectors for hand, foot or other human activities for operating or controlling electrical appliances with a rated voltage not exceeding 480 V and other equipment for household or similar purposes, and the rated current not exceeding 63 A. does not exceed.
These changeover selectors are designed to be operated by one person via an actuation element or by actuating a sensing unit. The actuation element or sensing unit may be integral with the switch or may be physically or electrically arranged separately from the switch and may include, for example, transmitting an electrical, optical, acoustic or thermal signal between the actuation or sensing unit and the switch.
Gear shift selectors incorporating additional control functions managed by the key function are within the scope of this standard. This standard also covers indirect actuation of the switch when the operation of the actuating element or sensing unit is provided by a remote control or part of a device, or equipment such as a door.
A selector must be able to carry the specified rated currents as well as currents for a specified period of time under certain abnormal circuit conditions such as a short circuit.
For non-locking selectors intended for AC and DC operation, verification is accomplished by subjecting one batch of test samples to 0,6 cycles of operation at rated load with cos j=10 and another batch of test samples to 10 cycles of operation at rated load. Other selectors are tested with the current power supply type.
