EN 50341-1 Test Standard for Overhead Power Lines

This standard applies to new overhead power lines with rated system voltages exceeding AC 1 kV and rated and frequencies below 100 Hz. The scope of application of this standard by each country in relation to existing overhead lines is subject to the requirements of the national normative aspects applicable to that country.

The specific definition of the meaning and scope of a "new overhead line" will be determined by each national committee in their NNA. At the very least, it would mean an entirely new line between the two points, A and B. Scope of application, this european standard also applies to shielded conductor overhead lines and overhead insulated cable systems with rated system voltages exceeding AC 1 kV.

45 kV and rated frequencies below 100 Hz. Additional requirements and simplifications that apply only to this voltage range are noted. For lines exceeding 45 kV, the design and construction of overhead lines with insulated conductors, where internal and external spacing may be smaller than specified in the standard, are not included.

This European standard applies to optical ground wires and optical conductors. However, the standard cannot be applied to telecommunications systems used either in overhead transmission lines connected to the transmission line conductor/earth cable system, or as separate cables supported by transmission supports, eg for telecommunications equipment installed in entire dielectric self-supporting or individual transmission line structures.
