EN 60831-2 Standard Test for Self-Healing Shunt Power Capacitors for AC Systems with Rated Voltage Up to (Included) 1000 V

EUROLAB laboratory provides testing and compliance services within the scope of EN 60831-2 standard. EN 60831-2 applies to capacitors according to EN 60831-1 and gives requirements for aging test, self-healing test and destruction test for these capacitors.

EN 60831-2 Standard Test for Self-Healing Shunt Power Capacitors for AC Systems with Rated Voltage Up to (Included) 1000 V

This third edition cancels and replaces the second edition published in 1995. This edition is a technical revision. This edition includes the following important technical changes from the previous edition:

  • Updating normative references;
  • Discharge cycles before aging test performed at ambient temperature;
  • Alternating Self-healing test at DC voltage;
  • Changed acceptance conditions after self-healing testing;
  • Changes in destruction testing.

The condenser unit is mounted in an enclosure in which heated air is circulated at an air velocity where temperature changes at any point in the enclosure do not exceed ± 2°C. The sensitive element of the thermostat, which regulates the temperature in the capacitor housing, should be located on the surface of the capacitor container three-quarters of the way up.

The test will be performed on a capacitor unit. Discharge resistors must be disconnected if necessary to avoid burning.
