This standard applies to newly manufactured electronic voltage transformers with analog outputs for use with electrical measuring instruments and electrical protective devices at frequencies between 15 Hz and 100 Hz. The standard covers electronic components and optical arrangements. Three-phase voltage transformers are not included, but some requirements apply.
All electronic voltage transformers must be suitable for measurement, but some may also be for protection purposes. Electronic voltage transformers used for both measurement and protection purposes shall comply with all the articles of this standard.
Vibrations caused by causes other than the electronic voltage transformer or earthquakes are negligible. However, it should be noted that some arrangements may be sensitive to vibrations. Appropriate vibration testing can then be determined by agreement between the manufacturer and the purchaser.
Even if this is not deemed necessary by the high voltage sensor's own technology, the intermittent lightning impulse test helps to check the secondary converter's ability to withstand the induced high voltage stress. The test arrangement should be agreed between the manufacturer and the purchaser.
The buyer should be aware that clearing the short circuit with fuses is not effective in case of output current limitation. Therefore, the electronic voltage transformer must be able to withstand a short circuit longer than the time required for a fuse to blow.
