IEC EN 60051-2 Direct-acting Analog Electrical Measuring Instruments - Part 2: Special Requirements for Ammeters and Voltmeters

It also applies to:

• Direct-acting display ammeters and voltmeters whose scale markings do not directly correspond to electrical input quantities, provided the relationship between them is known;
• Direct-acting ammeters and voltmeters, and accessories with electronic devices in their measuring or auxiliary circuits.

This standard does not apply to:

• Special-purpose tools covered by their own IEC standards;
• Special purpose devices that fall under their own IEC standards when used as accessories.

For an instrument whose scale is arranged to produce a particular arrangement of scale markings, the reference value (and therefore allowable error) shall be as agreed between the manufacturer and the user. The reference value does not have to be the same at all points on the scale.

An ammeter or voltmeter with a mechanical zero off the scale is considered to meet the short-term overload requirements if, after cooling to the reference temperature, its errors do not exceed those corresponding to the class index; however, overloads should not be repeated.
