EUROLAB, with its state-of-the-art accredited laboratories and expert team, provides precise and fast testing services within the scope of IEC EN 60227-2 testing. Methods for performing tests specified in all sections of IEC EN 60227 are given in this section and in IEC EN 60227-1, IEC EN 60332-1, IEC EN 60811-1-1.

IEC EN 60227-2 Polyvinyl Chloride Insulated Cables With Rated Voltages Up To 450-750 V And Included - Part 2: Test Methods

The average of the 18 values (in millimeters) obtained from three pieces of insulation taken from each core shall be calculated as two decimal places and rounded as given below, and this shall be taken as the average value of the insulation thickness.

The test applies to sheathed cables and flat, unsheathed cords, but not to straight tinsel cords. The test should be performed on a 5 m long cable sample. The sheath and other covering or filling should be removed without damaging the cores.

In the case of a straight, unsheathed cord, a short incision should be made in the insulation between the cores and the cores should be separated by hand, 2 m long. The application voltage and time are given in table 60227 of IEC EN 1-3 for each case.

This test does not apply to spiritual cords, single-core cables with flexible conductors for fixed wiring, or multi-core flexible cables with cores with a nominal cross-sectional area greater than 2,5 mm².

For two-core cables, the voltage between the conductors should be approximately 230 V AC. For all other cables with three or more cores, a voltage of about 400 V will be applied to a three phase AC three conductor, any additional conductors will be connected to neutral. Three adjacent vessels will be tested. It will be taken from the outer layer in a two-layer construction. This also applies when using a low voltage current loading system.
