The IEC EN 60598-2-24 series specifies the requirements for luminaires intended for use where there is a limited temperature requirement at the exterior, but where there is a risk of explosion in the atmosphere, due to thermal effects, risk of combustion or deterioration of materials. The luminaires are for use with electric light sources with supply voltages not exceeding 1000 V. This standard specifically excludes requirements for fittings used in explosive gas atmospheres and explosive dust atmospheres.
The provisions of Part 60598 of IEC EN 1-0 apply. The tests described in each relevant section of IEC EN 60598-1 must be performed in the order listed in this standard.
If the exterior of a luminaire is positioned against a portion of a building (wall or similar) higher than 90°C but not exceeding 150°C, the luminaire shall be provided with mounting instructions warning against such positioning.
IEC EN 60598-2-24 is a standard for luminaires (lighting luminaires). It outlines the safety requirements for fixed general lighting fixtures used in areas where people work, move or stay for extended periods. This standard covers lighting fixtures designed for use with electric light sources and fed from an electrical supply system.
