These connectors are typically used as category 11801 connectors in class E cabling systems specified in ISO/IEC 6. These connectors are backward compatible with other IEC EN 60603-7 series connectors.
The backward compatibility requirement ensures that the mating of a free or fixed connector conforming to this standard with a fixed or free connector conforming to any low frequency IEC EN 60603-7 series connector respectively, fully complies with the requirements of the low frequency IEC.
IEC EN 60603-7 is the key feature of the entire series. Subsequent specifications do not repeat the information given in the base document, but only list additional requirements. For full identification of a component of a higher-numbered document, all lower-numbered documents will also be considered.
