IEC EN 60603-7 aims to specify common dimensions (interface dimensions), mechanical, electrical and environmental characteristics and testing for 8-way, unshielded, free and fixed connectors and the IEC EN 60603-7-x family of connectors. These connectors are interlockable (according to IEC EN 61076-1 level 2) and interoperable with other IEC EN 60603-7 series connectors.
IEC EN 60603-7 is the key feature of the entire series. Subsequent specifications do not repeat the information given in the basic standard, but only list additional requirements. For all specifications for a component of a higher-numbered document, all lower-numbered documents should also be considered.
A connector may include multiple terminations between the cable termination and the separable contact interface. These may include, for example, press-fit connections of fixed connector contacts to PCBs. All terminations must meet applicable termination requirements.
Free connectors are designed to be terminated into cable to provide connector and cable assemblies. The connector manufacturer should provide basic information regarding the type of conductor (stranded, solid) to which the connector can be applied and the type of connection used (solder, insulation displacement, etc.).

Different wire gauge sizes, outer sleeves, etc. Minor changes in the internal details of a free connector to accommodate compliance do not require the creation of new free connector specifications.
