IEC EN 60947-7-1 Low Voltage Switchgear and Controllers - Part 7-1: Auxiliary Equipment - Terminal Blocks Test Method for Copper Conductors

IEC EN 60947-7-1 specifies requirements for screw or screwless type clamping unit terminal blocks intended primarily for industrial or similar use and intended to be fixed to a support to provide electrical and mechanical connection between copper conductors. Applies to terminal blocks intended for use in circuits without rated voltage, intended for connecting round copper conductors with a cross section between 0,2 mm2 and 300 mm² (AWG 24/600 kcmil), with or without special preparation.

This standard can be used as a guide for;

• Terminal blocks that require the fixing of special devices to conductors, eg quick-connect terminations or coiled connections, etc.;
• Terminal blocks that make direct contact with conductors through insulation-penetrating edges or points, eg insulation displacement connections, etc.;
• Special type terminals, eg with diode or varistor or similar component holder, etc.

No contact pressure should be transmitted through insulating materials other than ceramics or other materials with less favorable properties, unless there is sufficient flexibility in the metallic parts to compensate for any possible shrinkage of the insulating material.

The terminals will be designed in such a way that the rated cross-section and, if any, the rated connection capacity conductors can be accepted.

The test should be performed on two docking units on the central terminal block from the five terminal blocks mounted in normal use to the appropriate support according to the manufacturer's instructions.
