IEC EN 61558-2-2 Special Requirements and tests for Control Transformers and Power Supply Units Containing Control Transformers

EUROLAB, with its state-of-the-art accredited laboratories and expert team, provides precise and fast testing services within the scope of IEC EN 61558-2-2 testing. This part of IEC EN 61558 deals with the safety of control transformers and power supply units containing control transformers. Transformers containing electronic circuits are also covered by this document.

IEC EN 61558-2-2 Special Requirements and tests for Control Transformers and Power Supply Units Containing Control Transformers

Safety includes electrical, thermal and mechanical considerations. Unless otherwise stated, the term transformer hereinafter includes control transformers and power supply units including control transformers. This document applies to power supply units (linear).

For switched-mode power supply units, IEC EN 61558-2-16 applies with this document. Where two requirements conflict, the most serious takes precedence. This standard does not apply to transformers within the scope of IEC EN 60076-11. This standard applies to fixed or portable, single-phase or multi-phase, air-cooled (natural or forced) stand-alone or related dry-type transformers.

Coils may be encapsulated or unencapsulated. The rated supply voltage does not exceed 1000 V AC and the rated supply frequency and internal operating frequencies do not exceed 500 Hz.

The rated thermal output does not exceed:

  • 25 kVA for single-phase transformers;
  • 40 kVA for multi-phase transformers.

This standard applies to transformers without rated thermal output limitation, subject to an agreement between the purchaser and the manufacturer.

Transformers intended to supply distribution networks are not covered. No-load output voltage or rated output voltage does not exceed 1000 V AC or 1415 V ripple-free DC. No-load output voltage or rated output voltage for stand-alone transformers is not less than 50 V AC or 120 V ripple-free DC. This standard does not apply to external circuits and their components intended to be connected to the input terminals and output terminals of transformers.
