IEC EN 62821-3 applies to flexible cables for connection to devices insulated and sheathed with a halogen-free thermoplastic compound and having a low emission of smoke and corrosive gas when exposed to fire. The cables have rated voltages up to 300/500 V (including 300/500 V). Circular cables and flat cables are included.

For two-core cable, the space between the cores must be filled either with separate halogen-free fillers or with a sheath that fills the gaps. A halogen-free tape may be applied around the core assembly prior to application of the sheath.
