EN 50470-1 General Requirements, Tests and Test Conditions for Electrical Measuring Equipment

This European standard applies to newly manufactured watt-hour meters measuring active electrical energy intended for residential, commercial and light industrial use for use in 50 Hz electrical networks. Specifies general requirements and type testing methods.

This standard applies to electromechanical or static watt-hour meters for indoor and outdoor applications, consisting of a measuring element and register(s) housed in a meter box.

If the meter has a measuring element for more than one energy type (multi-energy meters), or other functional elements such as maximum demand indicators, electronic tariff registers, time switches, surge control receivers, data communication interfaces, etc. is added to the meter box (multifunctional meters), this standard only applies to the active energy measuring piece.

This standard distinguishes:

• Electromechanical and static meters;
• meters of class indexes A, B and C;
• Directly connected and transformer-operated meters;
• Protective class I and protective class II meters;
• Counters intended for indoor and outdoor use.

Does not apply to:

• Watt-hour meters (line-to-line voltage for meters for multi-phase systems) where the voltage at the connecting terminals exceeds 600 V;
• portable counters;
• Reference counters.

The test levels are considered minimum values ​​to guarantee proper operation of the meter under normal operating conditions.
