EUROLAB laboratory provides testing and compliance services within the scope of EN 50483-5 standard. The EN 50483 series is applicable to overhead line fixtures for tensioning, supporting and connecting antenna bundle cables (ABC) with rated voltage U0/U (Um): 0,6/1 (1,2) kV.
This section 5 applies to connections described in EN 50483-4, including branch connectors, Insulation Piercing Connectors (IPC), pre-insulated lugs (terminals), and pre-insulated connectors (sleeves).
The purpose is to provide a method for testing the compatibility of connectors when used under normal operating conditions with low voltage antenna bundle cables conforming to HD 626.
This standard covers two connector classes:
To class: These are connectors intended for electrical distribution. or industrial networks where they can be exposed to short circuits of relatively high intensity and duration. As a result, Class A connectors will be suitable for most applications.
Class B: These are connectors for networks in which overloads or short circuits are quickly cleared by the operation of protection devices.
Depending on their application, connectors are subjected to heat cycles and short-circuit current tests. Class A connectors are subjected to heat cycles and short-circuit current tests. Class B connectors are heat cycled only. The purpose of this section 5 is to describe the heating cycles test methods and requirements applicable to connectors for low-voltage aerial bundled cables, insulation-piercing connectors, and all other types of connections.
This European standard does not override existing approvals of products obtained on the basis of national standards and specifications or demonstration of satisfactory service performance. However, products approved to such national standards or specifications cannot directly seek approval for this European Standard.
