EN 50564 Electrical and Electronic Home and Office Equipment - Test Standard for Measurement of Low Power Consumption

EUROLAB laboratory provides testing and compliance services within the scope of EN 50564 standard. This European Standard specifies methods for measuring electrical power consumption and reporting results for a range of electrical and electronic home and office equipment, hereinafter referred to as products.

EN 50564 Electrical and Electronic Home and Office Equipment - Test Standard for Measurement of Low Power Consumption

This standard addresses issues related to measuring electrical power, particularly low power (of the order of a few Watts or less), consumed by mains powered products.

This standard details the requirements for testing single-phase products with a rated input voltage in the range of 100 V ac to 250 V ac, but with some adaptations it can also be used with three-phase products.

This standard can also assist in determining the energy efficiency of products in conjunction with other, more specific product standards.

The value of the energy consumed will depend on the operating mode of the product under test, eg whether the equipment is in off mode, standby mode or active mode. This standard does not specify these modes and therefore it is not possible to use this standard alone. Instead, it provides a measurement method with various modes defined elsewhere.

This standard

  • Specifies the security requirements,
  • Specifies the minimum performance requirements,
  • Set maximum limits for power or energy consumption,
  • It includes limit values or procedures to verify compliance with regulatory requirements.

This standard was written in support of EU Commission Regulation 1275/2008 specifically for the measurement of off-mode and standby-mode power consumption. This standard specifies methods for measuring electrical power consumption in standby modes and other low power modes (off mode), as appropriate.

This standard is applicable to electrical products with a rated input voltage of 230 V ac for single-phase products and 400 V ac for three-phase products.

The measurement of energy consumption and performance of products during their intended use is often specified in more specific product standards and is not covered by this standard.

The term "products" in this standard includes household appliances or information technology products, consumer electronics, audio, video and multimedia systems, but the measurement methodology can also be applied to other products.

Where this standard is referred to by more specific standards or procedures, they should describe and name the relevant conditions under which this test procedure is applied.
