Insulated cables covered by this part of EN IS0 6722 shall conform to the specified values. For other requirements, different conductor structures can be used, provided they meet the nominal cross-sectional area and conductor resistance requirement.
When a test is required, all combinations of conductor size, wall thickness and insulation formulation must meet the appropriate requirements. However, if testing of representative conductor sizes is permitted, suitability for a family of cables can be demonstrated by testing only samples of large and small conductor sizes. Allowing conformity to be demonstrated for a family of cables by testing "representative conductor sizes" will be provided by agreement between the customer and the supplier.
Prepare a test specimen of 1,1 m in length, including the required length for the connections. Current must be supplied to the device under test via extra terminals located outside the voltage probes. The thickness of the blades for tension measurement shall be less than 0,5 mm. The distance between the inner edges of the tension probes will be (1000 ± 5) mm.
The resistance of a tested cable is determined as its temperature ranges from room temperature to 50°C. Resistance is calculated by measuring the potential difference along the cable and measuring the current flowing through the cable. The current is supplied by a constant current source (dc power supply).
