IEC EN 60332-3-10 Tests on Electrical and Fiber Optic Cables Under Fire Conditions - Part 3-10: Vertical Flame Spread Test of Vertically Mounted Bundled Wires or Cables

With its state-of-the-art accredited laboratories and expert team, EUROLAB provides precise and fast testing services within the scope of IEC EN 60332-3-10 test. IEC EN 60332-3-10 details the apparatus and its layout and calibration for test methods for the assessment of vertical flame propagation of vertically mounted electrical or optical bundled wires or cables under defined conditions.

IEC EN 60332-3-10 Tests on Electrical and Fiber Optic Cables Under Fire Conditions - Part 3-10: Vertical Flame Spread Test of Vertically Mounted Bundled Wires or Cables

This edition includes the following important technical changes from the previous edition:

  • Corrections have been made in the title and elsewhere to emphasize that the standard can be applied to fiber optic cables as well as metallic conductor types;
  • The details of the way the cables are mounted on the ladder are better defined to improve repeatability and reproducibility;
  • The connection of the venturi mixer to the burner is better defined.

The IEC EN 60332-1 and IEC EN 60332-2 series specify test methods for flame propagation properties for a single vertically insulated wire or cable. Because a wire or cable meets the requirements of the IEC EN 60332-1 and IEC EN 60332-2 series, it cannot be assumed that a vertical bundle of similar cable or wires will behave similarly.

Sections from 3-21 describe the various categories and related procedures. The categories are distinguished by the test time, the volume of the non-metallic material of the test specimen, and the mounting method of the specimen for testing. In all categories, cables with at least one conductor greater than 35 mm² are tested in a gap configuration, while cables with a conductor cross-section of 35 mm2 or less and fiber optic cables are tested in a contact configuration.

The categories do not have to relate to the different safety levels in actual cable installations. The actual installed configuration of the cables can be an important determinant of the flame spread level that occurs in a real fire.
