IEC EN 60670-24 applies to enclosures and parts thereof of protective devices and other power-consuming electrical equipment intended for use in household and similar fixed appliances with a rated voltage not exceeding 400 V and a total incoming load current not exceeding 125 A.
These enclosures are intended to be installed in places accessible to unqualified persons. They are intended to be integrated into electrical equipment in the field by skilled persons (installers).
They are intended to be installed where the possible short-circuit current does not exceed 17 kA, unless they are protected by current-limiting protective devices with a breaking current not exceeding 10 kA.
The enclosure, which is an integral part of an electrical accessory and provides protection against external influences (e.g. mechanical shocks, ingress of solid objects or water), is within the scope of the relevant standard for such an accessory.
This standard does not apply to the low voltage switchgear and control equipment assembly as defined in the IEC EN 60439 or IEC EN 61439 standard series, or to the main input panel, which may or may not be part of the distribution board.
Enclosures are tested, complete with the necessary tools (such as grommets) specified in the manufacturer's instructions and fully filled with window openings, if any, blank inserts submitted by the manufacturer or product samples declared by the manufacturer.
