The Epstein framework can be applied to test specimens sampled from electrical steel strip and sheet of any grade. Ac magnetic properties are determined under the excitation condition where the induced voltage becomes sinusoidal (hereinafter referred to as the "sinusoidal magnetic flux excitation state") by determining the peak value of the magnetic flux density and frequency.

The common inductor for air flow compensation should be placed in the center of the space enclosed by the four coils, with its axis perpendicular to the plane of the axes of these coils. The primary winding of the common inductor should be connected in series with the primary winding of the Epstein frame, and the secondary winding of the common inductor should be connected in series with the secondary winding of the Epstein frame.
