EN 60730 Test Methods for Automatic Electrical Controls

EUROLAB laboratory provides testing and compliance services within the scope of EN 60730 standard. The EN 60730 standard applies to automatic electrical controls for use in, on, or in combination with equipment for household and similar use. The equipment can be used for electricity, gas, oil, solid fuel, solar energy, etc. or a combination of these.

EN 60730 Test Methods for Automatic Electrical Controls

This International Standard applies to controls for building automation under ISO 16484. This standard also applies to automatic electrical controls of equipment that may be used by the public, such as equipment intended for use in shops, offices, hospitals, farms, and commercial and industrial applications.

This standard is also applicable to individual controls used as part of a control system, or to controls mechanically integrated with multifunction controls with non-electrical outputs. This standard can also be applied to relays when used as controls for EN 60335 devices.

This standard is intended to be used for the testing of any stand-alone relay intended to be used as a control of a device according to EN 60335-1. It is not intended to be used for any other stand-alone relay or to replace the EN 61810 series standards.

This standard does not apply to automatic electrical controls for industrial process applications only, unless expressly stated in the equipment standard. This standard applies to controls powered by primary or secondary batteries whose requirements are included in the standard.

This International Standard applies to structural safety, operating values, operating times and sequences of operation, and testing of automatic electrical control devices used on or with equipment where it relates to equipment safety. This standard applies to controls using thermistors.

This standard can also be applied to the functional security of security-related low complexity systems and controls. This standard covers mechanical or electrically operated automatic electrical controls that respond to or control properties such as temperature, pressure, the passage of time, humidity, light, electrostatic effects, flow or liquid level, current, voltage, acceleration or combinations thereof.

This standard applies to starter relays, a specific type of automatic electrical control intended to change the starter winding of a motor. Such controls may be integrated into or separate from the motor. Start relays are tested as voltage sense or current sense controls.

This standard applies to manual controls that are electrically or mechanically integrated with automatic controls. This standard applies to ac or dc powered controls with a rated voltage not exceeding 690 V ac or 600 V dc.

This standard does not take into account the response value of a control's automatic action if such a response value is dependent on the way the control is mounted to the equipment. Where a response value has an important purpose to protect the user or their environment, the value defined in the appropriate household equipment standard or specified by the manufacturer will apply.

This standard applies to the electrical and functional safety of controls capable of receiving and responding to communication signals, including signals for power billing rate and demand response. Signals can be transmitted to or received from external units that are part of the control (wired) or external units that are not part of the control under test (wireless).

This standard does not address the integrity of the output signal to network devices, such as interoperability with other devices, unless considered as part of the control system. The EN 60730 test standard tests automatic electrical controls in 2 separate sections:
