EN 60950 Information Technology Equipment - Security Part General Requirements

This standard is applicable to mains or battery powered information technology equipment, including electrical work equipment and related equipment, whose rated voltage does not exceed 600 V.

This standard is also applicable to such information technology equipment as:

• Designed to be used as telecommunication terminal equipment and TELECOMMUNICATION NETWORK infrastructure equipment independent of the power supply;
• Designed and intended to be connected directly to a cable distribution system or used as infrastructure equipment independent of the power supply;
• It is designed to use AC mains supply as a communication transmission medium.

This part of IEC 60950 also applies to:

• Components and sub-assemblies intended to be included in this equipment. Provided that complete equipment containing such components and subassemblies is suitable, such components and subassemblies need not comply with all the requirements of the standard;
• external power supply units intended to supply other equipment covered by this part of IEC 60950;
• Accessories intended for use with equipment covered by this part of IEC 60950.

This standard is applicable to electronic parts of equipment such as large-scale air conditioning systems, fire detection systems and fire suppression systems, even if that equipment is not fully covered. Different requirements may be required for some applications.

Equipment in accordance with the relevant requirements in this standard is considered suitable for use with similar systems that require process control equipment, automatic test equipment and data processing facilities. However, this standard does not contain requirements regarding the performance or functional characteristics of equipment.
