DIN 54345-5 Textile Tests - Electrostatic Behavior - Test for Determination of Electrical Resistance of Textile Fabric Strips

EUROLAB, with its state-of-the-art accredited laboratories and expert team, provides precise and fast testing services within the scope of DIN 54345-5 testing. The method described in this standard is used to determine the electrical resistance of strips made of textile flat structures containing mixtures of materials whose resistance is significantly lower than that of the textile material, in order to improve its ability to discharge electrostatic charges. Such an addition of conductive fibers, e.g. B. Metal fibers, metallized yarn, conductive polymer or carbon fibers should reduce the resistance of the textile without impairing the other textile properties of the material.

DIN 54345-5 Textile Tests - Electrostatic Behavior - Test for Determination of Electrical Resistance of Textile Fabric Strips

The ring electrode described in DIN 54345 Part 1 is not always suitable for determining the resistance of such textiles, since some conductive fibers can close the measuring range of the ring electrode and as a result it is measured by the determined resistance.

Therefore, for the current standard, an electrode arrangement has been developed in which the electrode spacing can be adjusted to a size that takes into account the fact that the electrode spacing is variable and therefore charge distribution must generally occur over larger stretches of textile material.

Strips 50 mm wide and 350 mm long of the textile material to be tested are stored long enough at low relative humidity. The resistance of the measuring samples clamped to the measuring device is then determined with the aid of a suitable resistance measuring device.

The arithmetic mean values are formed from at least five values measured in the longitudinal and transverse directions for each clamping length measured. If the ratio of the largest to the smallest measured individual value is greater than 10, all individual values are given in the test report.
