Devices designed to radiate electromagnetic energy for radio communications are excluded from this standard. Distortions in the 0 Hz to 400 GHz frequency range are covered. Failure conditions of the apparatus are not taken into account. Where a relevant specific product or product family EMC emission standard exists, it will take precedence over all aspects of this general standard.
The environments covered by this standard are industrial, both indoors and outdoors. The apparatus covered by this standard is not designed for connection to a public grid, but is intended to be connected to a power grid fed from a dedicated high or medium voltage transformer to supply an installation supplying a manufacturing or similar facility. This standard applies to devices intended for operation in industrial locations or close to industrial power plants.
The purpose of this standard is to define limits and test methods for devices defined in scope for electromagnetic emissions that may cause interference with other devices. These emission limits represent basic electromagnetic compatibility requirements and have been chosen to ensure that disturbances produced by apparatus normally operated in industrial locations do not exceed a level that could prevent other apparatus from operating as intended.
