EN 60851-3 Winding Wires, Test Methods, Part 3: Standard Test for Mechanical Properties

EUROLAB laboratory provides testing and compliance services within the scope of EN 60851-3 standard. This part of EN 60851 forms part of a set of standards dealing with insulated wires used for windings in electrical equipment.

EN 60851-3 Winding Wires, Test Methods, Part 3: Standard Test for Mechanical Properties

The series has three groups describing:

  • Winding wire test methods (EN 60851);
  • Specifications for certain types of winding wire (EN 60317);
  • Packaging of winding wires (EN 60264).

A straight piece of wire should be extended to the breaking point of the conductor at a speed of (200 ± 250) mm/s with a tensile test equipment with a free measuring length of 5 mm to 1 mm and recording the force.

Three samples will be tested. Three individual values of force at initial cross section and fracture should be reported. The average value of the force ratio at break and the initial cross section represents the tensile strength.

A flat piece of wire is wrapped around a mandrel five times in diameter and under tension applied to the wire as specified in the relevant standard. Reading the recoil angle of the end of the five turns is the measure of springiness.
