In this protocol, aging takes place over a small number of fixed times using the appropriate number of aging temperatures throughout each time, at the end of the respective time interval the properties of the samples are measured.

This differs from the IEC 60216-1 procedure where aging is performed at a small number of constant temperatures, where the property measurement takes place after aging times due to the progression of aging. Diagnostic tests used in the fixed time frame method are limited to destructive tests.
