IEC 61897 Requirements and Tests for Overhead Lines, Wind Vibration Dampers

EUROLAB laboratory provides testing and compliance service within the scope of IEC 61897 standard. IEC 61897 applies to wind vibration dampers intended for single conductors or ground wires or bundles of conductors where the dampers are directly connected to each subconductor.

Buyer may accept parts of this document when specifying requirements for cables other than those listed above (for example, optical ground wires (OPGW), all dielectric self-supporting optical cables (ADSS)). In some cases, test procedures and test values ​​are left to agreement between the buyer and supplier and are specified in the purchase contract.

Throughout this standard, the word "conductor" is used when testing is applied to dampers for conductors or ground wires. This edition constitutes a technical revision.

This edition includes the following important technical changes from the previous edition:

• In addition to Stockbridge-type wind vibration dampers, consider spiral wind dampers and elastomer wind wind dampers.
• Consider the application of dampers on high temperature conductors by specifying additional high temperature tests in clamp slip tests.
• Simplify the damper effectiveness evaluation procedure.
• Low temperature test on fasteners such as split bolts and conical spring washers.
• Include figures showing test arrangements for major mechanical tests.
