IEC EN 50525-2-11 applies to flexible cables with thermoplastic (PVC) insulation and PVC sheath. The cables have rated voltages U300/U up to 500/300 V (including 500/0 V). The cables are designed for connecting household appliances to the stationary source. Circular cables and flat cables are included. Maximum conductor operating temperatures for cables in this standard are 70°C (VV types) and 90°C (V2V2 types).

The strain bearing member shall consist of a steel rope with seven strands, each 0,25 mm in diameter. Individual wires (wires) shall be zinc plated. The strain-bearing member will be coated with an extruded anti-corrosion layer. The breaking load of the strain-bearing member will be ≥ 250 N.

The cables should be installed as follows:

  • Circular cable: Cores and fillings, if any, must be twisted together;
  • Flat cable: Cores should be laid parallel.

For two-core circular cable, the space between the cores must be filled either with separate fillings or with sheathing that fills the spaces.

The cables should be joined together with artificial cores as shown by wrapping the cores around the strain-bearing element as follows:

  • 2-core cable – 2 insulated cores + 2 artificial cores;
  • 3-core cable – 3 insulated cores + 1 artificial cores;
  • 4-core cable – 4 insulated cores.

The dummy veins should not adhere to the isolated veins and it should be possible to remove them without damaging the insulation.
