IEC EN 50525-3-11 applies to flexible cables insulated and sheathed with a halogen-free thermoplastic compound and with low emission of smoke and corrosive gas when exposed to fire. Low smoke emission is controlled according to IEC EN 61034-2. The low emission of corrosive gases is controlled as part of the absence of halogens control.
The cables have rated voltages U300/U up to 500/300 V (including 500/0 V). The cables are designed for connecting household appliances to the stationary source. Circular cables and flat cables are included. The maximum conductor operating temperature for each of the cables in this standard is 70°C.
This test is to demonstrate the effect of water on the mechanical properties of the sheath by determining the tensile strength and elongation at break of the coating materials in the unconditioned condition in which they are produced and in the conditioned condition after immersion. Tensile tests on conditioned and unconditioned test pieces should be performed in immediate succession.
Each cable shall comply with the appropriate requirements given in IEC EN 50525-1 and the specific requirements of this Part. When tested according to the method and procedure given in IEC EN 61034-2, all cable sizes will exceed 60% light transmission throughout the test.
