This part of IEC EN 60512 is used to test electromechanical components within the scope of IEC technical committee 48 when detail specification requires. This test can also be performed on similar devices when required by a particular specification.

The purpose of this test is to establish a standardized test method for evaluating a component's ability to withstand shocks of specified severity.

Samples should be tested to full use of all mechanical fixtures such as panel mounting arrangements, locking and holding devices. Details of the control circuit should be specified, including the method and the connection points of the sensors to the sample.

Unless otherwise specified in the specific specification, a minimum wire or cable length of 200 mm must remain free on both sides of the sample. The wire or cable must be secured to the baseplate (or similar) of the jolting equipment. For continuity check, the contacts and screen must be connected in series as specified in the specification.

The sample will be visually inspected before it is disassembled. There must be no loosening, part displacement or mechanical damage that would impair operation.
