IEC EN 60598-2-25 Luminaires - Part 2-25: Special Requirements - Luminaires for Use in Clinical Areas of Hospitals and Health Care Buildings

This standard details the specific requirements for luminaires used in combination with tungsten filament, fluorescent and other discharge lamps at supply voltages not exceeding 1000 V in clinical areas where medical treatment, examination and medical care is carried out in hospitals and health buildings.

In manual inspection fixtures, switches, including control devices, must be fully closed in the handle or body of the fixture. The cover of the controller must be made of a flexible material such as rubber or polychloroprene to enable the switch to operate.

Lamps in manual inspection luminaires and general inspection luminaires must be protected against accidental damage. Any protective device, such as a translucent bowl, must be attached to the luminaire body. It should not be possible to remove the protective device manually and it should not be possible to replace the lamp without removing it completely from the luminaire.

The sockets of tungsten filament lamps used in manual inspection fixtures must be secured against rotation by at least two independent means, at least one of which can only be operated with the aid of a tool. These locking devices should not be used to secure other parts.
