IEC EN 60721-3-4 Classification of Environmental Conditions - Part 3-4: Standard Test for Fixed Use in Non-Weather Protected Locations

EUROLAB, with its state-of-the-art accredited laboratories and expert team, provides precise and fast testing services within the scope of IEC EN 60721-3-4 testing. This part of IEC EN 60721 categorizes the environmental parameter groups and their severity to which products are exposed when installed for fixed use in non-weather protected locations. Weather protected locations where products can be permanently or temporarily installed for fixed use are addressed in IEC EN 60721-3-3.

IEC EN 60721-3-4 Classification of Environmental Conditions - Part 3-4: Standard Test for Fixed Use in Non-Weather Protected Locations

The environmental conditions specified in this standard are limited to those that can directly affect the performance of the products. Only such environmental conditions are taken into account. No specific disclosure is provided regarding the effects of these conditions on products.

Environmental conditions directly related to fire or explosion hazards, the microclimate inside a product, and conditions related to the effects of ionizing radiation are excluded. Other unforeseen events are also excluded. A limited number of environmental condition classes are given, covering a wide range of applications.

A product may be exposed to a variety of environmental conditions during its lifetime. These conditions are divided into classes described in IEC EN 60721-3 (all parts). The given classes can be used to describe the maximum short-term environmental stresses on a product. However, they do not provide information on the long-term or total lifetime environmental stresses that a product may be exposed to. This means that no reliability or lifetime assessments are possible based solely on these classes.

A product can be exposed to several environmental parameters at the same time, for example solar radiation and temperature, temperature and humidity, as well as vibration and temperature variation. Combinations of given environmental parameters can increase the stress effect on a product. Therefore, the combined conditions must be considered in the design and evaluation of a product.

It is recognized that extreme or special environmental conditions may exist that require consideration of severity not covered in this standard. The user of this standard should choose the lowest classification necessary to meet the intended conditions of use.
