The cable must conform to the family specification (IEC EN 60794-2-30) and meet the requirements defined here. The cable must be designed and manufactured for an estimated operating life of at least 15 years. In this context, the attenuation of the laid cable at operational wavelengths will not exceed the values agreed between the customer and the supplier. The materials in the cable will not pose a health hazard within the scope of its intended use.
The fiber optic ribbon cable may include a tensile strength member. The strength member may be a suitable sheet of material applied longitudinally or helically, or may be embedded in the overall sheath.
