IEC EN 61156-8 Multicore and Symmetrical Twin-Quad Cables for Digital Communications - Work Area Wiring - Sectional Specification

EUROLAB, with its state-of-the-art accredited laboratories and expert team, provides precise and fast testing services within the scope of IEC EN 61156-8 testing. This section specification deals with IEC EN 61156-1 and IEC EN 61156-7. The cables described here are specified up to 1200 MHz and are specifically designed to create patch, equipment, and workplace cables as defined in ISO/IEC 11801 and ISO/IEC 15018.

IEC EN 61156-8 Multicore and Symmetrical Twin-Quad Cables for Digital Communications - Work Area Wiring - Sectional Specification

It covers a cable with four individual shielded (STP) pairs. The cable may be provided with a common shield on the cable core. Transmission characteristics are specified for the frequency range 4 MHz to 1200 MHz and at 20°C.

These cables can be used for various communication channels using up to four pairs simultaneously. In this sense, this section specification provides the cable specifications that system developers need to evaluate new systems.

Cables covered by this section specification are intended to operate with voltages and currents normally encountered in communication systems. These cables are not designed for use with low impedance sources such as utility grid electrical power supplies.

Under static conditions, the cables will operate in the temperature range of –20°C to +60°C. The dependence of the wiring on temperature is specified and should be considered for the design of an actual wiring system.

Material selection and cable construction will be appropriate for the intended application and installation of the cable. Particular attention will be paid to meeting special requirements for fire performance (combustion characteristics, smoke generation, halogen gas generation, etc.).

The conductor shall be a single or stranded annealed copper conductor according to IEC EN 61156-1 and have a nominal diameter of 0,4 mm to 0,65 mm. The stranded conductor should preferably be seven-wire. Higher conductor diameters can be used if compatible with the connection hardware.
