The use of multi-channel formats is becoming more commonplace, mainly for the local presentation of surround sound and cinema. The procedures described in this report apply to any number of channels.
If the number of speakers to be tested is large, the pairwise comparison listening test is lengthy because each speaker has to be compared to the next. A shorter method is single stimulus evaluation. With this method, each object is evaluated once. The rating is almost independent of the speaker range tested. Each object is rated in absolute terms, while a paired comparison provides a relative ranking of the order of the speakers tested.
