For the purposes of this standard, physical concepts, device types, general terms and definitions given in IEC EN 62148-1, where ratings and terminology for specifications can be found.

All optical fibers defined in IEC EN 60793-2-50 and ITU-T Recommendations G.652, G.653 and G.654 can be used. If a braid is intended to be terminated by an optical connector, all optical connectors defined in IEC EN 60874 can be used.
