IEC EN 62148-18 specifies 40 Gbit/s serial physical interface specifications for transmitter and receiver components for use with an LC connector interface. The purpose of this standard is to adequately specify the physical requirements for optical transmitters and receivers to enable mechanical interchangeability of transmitters and receivers conforming to this standard, both at the PCB level and for any panel mounting requirement.
Compact optical subassembly (OSA) modules for 40 Gbit/s are used to convert electrical signals to optical signals and vice versa. This part of IEC EN 62148 covers the physical interface for 40 Gbit/s compact OSA modules. These modules are designed for use with the LC fiber optic connector specified in IEC EN 61754-20 and are intended to be applied to transceivers with bitrates of 40 Gbit/s or higher.
Components specified in this part of IEC EN 62148 must comply with appropriate requirements for electromagnetic compatibility (both emission and immunity) depending on the particular use/environment in which they are intended to be installed or integrated. Guidance for the preparation of such EMC requirements is provided in IEC Guide 107. Guidance for electrostatic discharge (ESD) is currently under review.
This clause specifies the physical requirements for a TOSA module to enable mechanical interchangeability of modules conforming to this standard for both PCB and any panel mounting requirements. The vendor should design the FPC with consideration of electrical interference and mechanical stress.
