EUROLAB, with its state-of-the-art accredited laboratories and expert team, provides precise and fast testing services within the scope of IEC EN 62561-7 testing. IEC EN 62561-7 specifies requirements and tests for earth-enhancing compounds that produce the low resistance of an earth-termination system.

IEC EN 62561-7 Lightning Protection System Components (LPSC) - Part 7: Requirements for Grounding Reinforcing Compounds

This part of IEC EN 62561 deals with the requirements and tests for grounding reinforcement compounds as a lightning protection system component (LPSC) designed and implemented in accordance with IEC EN 62305 (all parts).

Grounding reinforcing compounds should be designed and constructed in such a way that their performance in normal use is reliable and does not pose a hazard to humans and the surrounding environment. The choice of a material depends on its ability to meet the requirements of a particular application.

The manufacturer or supplier of earthing enhancing compounds should provide sufficient information in its literature to enable the installer to select and install materials appropriately and safely. The manufacturer's literature will contain information on how to maintain the properties of the ground reinforcing compound so that it remains stable over time.

The material of the grounding reinforcing compound will be chemically inert to the ground. It will not pollute the environment. It will provide a stable environment in terms of physical and chemical properties and will exhibit low resistivity. The grounding enhancing compound must not be corrosive to the ground electrodes used.

Unless otherwise stated, tests are performed with samples prepared in normal use according to the manufacturer's or supplier's instructions. All tests are performed on new samples.

A four-electrode method will be used to measure the resistivity of ground-enhancing compounds as described in ASTM G57-06. Representative samples of materials should be taken from a typical package supplied by the manufacturer and prepared according to the manufacturer's instructions. Three samples of the grounding reinforcement material should be tested in a four-electrode ground box.

In the four-electrode method, a voltage is applied to the outer electrodes that causes current to flow. The resulting voltage drop between the inner electrodes is measured using a voltmeter and the resulting resistance is calculated. The resistance of the material can also be measured directly.
