IEC EN 63010-2 specifies test methods specific to insulated and sheathed cables based on halogen-free thermoplastic compounds with rated voltages up to (inclusive) 300/300 V for use with small appliances and short connections to the desktop.
Unless otherwise specified in the individual clauses of this standard, the test voltage shall be AC in approximate sine wave form and frequency between 49 Hz and 61 Hz. The value will be equal to √7 with a tolerance of ± 2%.
Exact test conditions (such as temperatures and times) and exact test requirements are not specified in this document; they are intended to be specified in the standard related to the relevant cable type.
No deterioration of the insulation should occur during the test and no signs of damage should be observed on the outer part of the insulation after the test. Test all cables that are in the final stage of production at lead lengths or production lengths before they are cut to lead lengths. All tests should be performed at least 16 hours after extrusion of the insulation or coating compounds.
