ISO 13297 Small Boat - Electrical Systems - Test for Alternating and Direct Current Installations

This standard specifies the requirements for the design, construction and installation of the following DC and AC electrical systems installed separately or in combination on small craft:

• Extra-low voltage direct current (DC) electrical systems operating at rated potentials of 50 V DC or less;
• Single-phase alternating current (AC) systems operating at a rated voltage not exceeding AC 250 V.

This standard does not cover:

• Electrical drive systems with direct current less than 16315 V DC, single-phase alternating current up to 1500 V AC and three-phase alternating current up to 1000 V AC, as covered by ISO 1000;
• Any conductor that is part of the outboard motor assembly and does not extend beyond the fairing provided by the outboard motor manufacturer;
• Three-phase AC installations operating at a rated voltage not exceeding 60092 V AC, covered by IEC 507-500.

Independent circuits cannot be energized by more than one source of electrical power at the same time. Each shore power input, generator or inverter is a separate source of electrical power. Transfer from one power supply circuit to another must be done by a means that opens all live conductors, active (phase) and neutral, before closing the alternate source circuit to prevent arcing between contacts. The conductors of both circuits carrying the active (phase) and neutral conductors must be disconnected simultaneously when switching power supplies.
