ISO 26262-4 Road Vehicles - Testing for System Level Product Development

This standard is intended to apply to safety-related systems fitted to mass-produced road vehicles, excluding mopeds, incorporating one or more electrical or electronic (E/E) systems. This standard does not address unique E/E systems in special vehicles, such as E/E systems designed for disabled drivers.

ISO 26262 addresses potential hazards arising from the malfunctioning behavior of E/E security-related systems, including the interaction of these systems. It does not address hazards related to electric shock, fire, smoke, heat, radiation, toxicity, flammability, reactivity, corrosion, energy release, and similar hazards, unless directly caused by malfunctioning behavior of E/E safety-related systems.

ISO 26262 does not address the rated performance of E/E systems, even if specific functional performance standards exist for these systems (eg active and passive safety systems, braking systems, Adaptive Cruise Control).
