EN 50397-1 Nominal Voltages, Covered Conductors and Related Accessories for Aerial Lines, Part 1: Standard Test for Covered Conductors

EUROLAB laboratory provides testing and compliance services within the scope of EN 50397-1 standard. This standard contains requirements for integrated longitudinal waterproofing or semiconductor-conductor shielded or non-integrated covered conductors for applications on overhead lines with rated voltages U above 1 kV ac and not exceeding 36 kV ac.

EN 50397-1 Nominal Voltages, Covered Conductors and Related Accessories for Aerial Lines, Part 1: Standard Test for Covered Conductors

Covered conductors consist of a conductor surrounded by a cover of insulating material as protection against accidental contact with other covered conductors and grounded parts such as tree branches. Compared to insulated conductors, this shroud has less properties, but can withstand phase-to-earth voltage temporarily.

Because the shielded conductors are unshielded, they are not touch-proof, meaning they must be treated as bare conductors against electric shock.

This standard specifies that gaps, openings, sags, etc. It does not cover the issues related to the installation of overhead lines, such as the designation of overhead lines.
