IEC EN 61754-7 Fiber Optic Interconnect Devices - Test for Type MPO Connector Family

EUROLAB, with its state-of-the-art accredited laboratories and expert team, provides precise and fast testing services within the scope of IEC EN 61754-7 testing. This part of IEC EN 61754 defines standard interface sizes for the single-fiber MPO type connector family.

IEC EN 61754-7 Fiber Optic Interconnect Devices - Test for Type MPO Connector Family

The main connector for the MPO type connector family is a multi-way plug, which uses two pins with a diameter of 0,7 mm as its alignment, characterized by a rectangular ferrule, normally 6,4 mm × 2,5 mm. The variant in this standard provides a connection of 2 to 12 fibers by lining up in a single layer (single row) arrangement between the two pin positioning holes in the ferrule. The connector includes a push-pull coupling mechanism and a ferrule spring loaded in the optical axis direction. The connector has a single male switch that can be used to orient and constrain the relative position between the connector and the component to which it is mated.

There are two angled interface plugs, one called down angled and the other angled up. Defined for both male and female plugs. The up and down descriptors refer to the inclination direction of the angled end face of the ferrule relative to the fiber axis when viewed towards the end face with the key feature of the plug on top. For down-angle plugs, the angled surface faces slightly down. For upward angled plugs, the angled surface faces slightly upwards.

These different angles affect interpenetration for the two adapter types. An opposing keyway adapter connects two plugs with keys in opposite directions, for example one side keyway up and the other keyway down. In contrast, an aligned keyway adapter maps two plugs to keys in the same orientation. When using an opposing keyway adapter with angled interfaces, two down angled plugs or two up angled plugs are connected. For flush keyway adapters with angled interfaces, a down angled plug and an up angled plug are connected.

In addition, the connector interfaces between the female plug and the male plug are configured by applying a backplane housing and PCB housing instead of the adapter. In addition, the female plug interface can be interlocked with the active device socket.
