IEC EN 61960-3 Secondary Batteries Containing Alkaline or Other Non-Acid Electrolytes - Part 3: Standard Test for Prismatic and Cylindrical Lithium Secondary Batteries

EUROLAB, with its state-of-the-art accredited laboratories and expert team, provides precise and fast testing services within the scope of IEC EN 61960-3 testing. IEC EN 61960-3 specifies performance tests, identifications, markings, dimensions and other requirements for secondary lithium single cells and batteries for portable applications.

IEC EN 61960-3 Secondary Batteries Containing Alkaline or Other Non-Acid Electrolytes - Part 3: Standard Test for Prismatic and Cylindrical Lithium Secondary Batteries

The purpose of this standard is to provide buyers and users of secondary lithium batteries and batteries with a set of criteria by which to evaluate the performance of secondary lithium batteries and batteries offered by various manufacturers. Portable applications include hand-held equipment, portable equipment and mobile equipment.

This edition includes the following important technical changes from the previous edition:

  • Adding the definition of portable applications;
  • Updating cell samples;
  • Addition of the dimensions of the laminate film-cased cell;
  • Adding post-storage capacity.

This standard defines the required minimum level of performance and a standardized methodology by which testing is performed and the results of this testing are reported to the user. Therefore, users will be able to determine the applicability of commercially available batteries and batteries through the declared specification and thus select the most suitable battery or battery for their intended application. The end user may only use batteries that fully meet all of this standard and other safety-related requirements such as IEC EN 62133-2.

This standard covers secondary lithium batteries and batteries with a range of chemistry. Each electrochemical couple has a characteristic voltage range at which it releases electrical capacity, a characteristic nominal voltage, and a characteristic final voltage during discharge. Users of secondary lithium batteries and batteries are requested to consult the manufacturer for advice.
