The procedures in this specification appendix, when used with SAE/USCAR 2, are intended to cover the performance testing of electrical terminals, connectors, and components that make up high-level electrical connection systems at all stages of development, manufacture, and field analysis. These procedures apply to terminals used for In-Line, Header, and Device Connector systems with and without Short Bars.
In any intended vehicle application, if the products covered by this standard are or will be subjected to conditions different from those described in this standard, they must undergo a series of tests that demonstrate that these conditions must be met before being accepted for actual vehicle application. For example, these products will be subject to the conditions and limits of the class specified in the table given in the standard or will generate noise or vibration in car parts (for example, wheel hub).
It is intended to cover performance testing of low light (0-20) power stations, electrical interconnect systems connections and components, the process developed by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) and the standard SAE USCAR 2 conducted at the entire development, production and regional testing level.
Guidelines for recommended tests for selected purposes are available in the diagrams in the SAE USCAR 2 standard practice. Unless otherwise specified or requested, all electronic connections and terminals and other components must comply with SAE USCAR 2 and this supplemental standard, except for special tests that are not required.
