IEC 60216-8 Standard Test Method for Electrical Insulating Materials, Thermal Endurance Properties

EUROLAB laboratory provides testing and compliance service within the scope of IEC 60216-8 standard. IEC 60216-8 specifies general aging conditions and simplified procedures to be used to obtain thermal endurance characteristics as indicated by temperature index (TI) or relative temperature index (RTI) and half-range (HIC).

IEC 60216-8 Standard Test Method for Electrical Insulating Materials, Thermal Endurance Properties

The procedures specify principles for evaluating the thermal endurance properties of materials exposed to high temperatures for extended periods of time.

In this part of IEC 60216, the study of thermal aging of materials is based solely on the change in certain properties resulting from exposure to high temperature. The properties studied are always measured after the temperature has returned to the ambient.

In the application of this standard, a practically linear relationship is assumed between the logarithm of the time required to cause a predetermined property change and the inverse of the corresponding absolute temperature (Arrhenius relationship). For valid application of the standard, there should be no transitions, in particular no first-order transitions, in the temperature range under consideration.
